July 4th-Happy Birthday USA!!! Slept a lot better last night today we have construction and sports, we’ll see how that goes.
Sports was amazing. Teaching the islanders golf provided many laughs. They surprised us all with their skills. Ellis became good very fast.
Then we played football(soccer) with the kids. Man was that exhausting. I have gotten used to the heat but the 85-90% humidity is killer. What amazes me is how I have learned not to notice myself sweating anymore. I scored a goal I cannot say with 100% certainty if it was truly earned the islanders are just so nice. I did enjoy the fact that it was not an open goal when I scored. After that we left and went to lunch.
Afternoon- We were on construction crew. Building a large bookcase for the school. This work required great attention to accuracy. Personally I have never used a table saw before in my life. One of the hardest parts for me involved making sure the boards we’re square.
Some boards took a really long time to get square. I guess the saw was misaligned with the table. When I cut a board 4 inches short rendering it useless i felt really bad. Luckily the plans changed and we no longer needed a board that long.
Then we went swimming, such a long hike. Well not too bad but after a long day it felt long. And when we got there another group from our team was already there playing with the kids. I started playing with one. Simon. He just kept swimming and swimming. Back and forth. I had to hold him up because he was not a good swimmer so this got tiring.
The kids here are slightly violent they put each other in choke holds often in fact Simon was held under water for a second.
We came back and had a true American dinner. Hamburgers & fries. I walked Kendry home with Nate. He told us that if he comes home beat up he gets beat more by him mom. This made my heart ache. We also went to youth group. Our group sang with Danial and others. Watching the two cultures praise God together truly warms my hear. We also lit off fireworks which made me feel somewhat at home…..
